Hi all
Out of my office window, I just saw a Downy Woodpecker land on a bamboo
shoot and start pecking. It looked like he was taking it a bit easy with his
head-thrusts at the narrow, narrow shaft he was hanging on. Then he decided
to give it a good whack or two. The bamboo shook. He shook. He kept
whacking. Then he flew to another shoot, repeated the process as he worked
his way up and down. I don't remember seeing a woodpecker attack such a
slender stalk before. But then, I guess that Chinese woodpeckers must have
gotten used to this long ago. Oh, well. Back to work.
