Hi all yesterday after work Aug 22 I headed To Kent County spured
on by the weekend reports of the Great White Heron at Eastern Neck
Island and the Black Tern at the Chestertown Sewage pond . First Stop
was the sewage lagoon on John Hanson Rd where gulls and terns were
resting as well as some feeding birds seen laughing Gulls , Ring billed
Gulls. 5 Royal Tern and 3 Caspian Terns there . While Scoping around
I soon located a flying Black Tern after a few minutes 2 more seen nearby
for a total of 3 all in flight . The only shorebird seen was 2 killdeer.

Than it was off to Eastern Neck Island arriving here at about 4 :30 PM
I headed straight to the Tubby Cove Parking area loaded with Bins ,
Scope , Camera gear hiking the boardwalk to the blind and nearly empty
marsh, cove area to find 2 Great Blue Herons several Royal Terns,
Forester's Terns and two Bald Eagles. After about 1 hour of waitng and a
no show Great white Heron I headed back to the parking area and crossed
the road to the hiking trail back towrds the bridge . Birds seen along here

DC comorant many on a fish net in the Chester river
Osprey at least 7
Great Blue Herons 4 east side of the Island
Red bellied Woodpecker 1 adult 1 immature together on the same limb
dad showing son how to hunt food .
Ruby Throated Hummingbird 1 feeding in the trumpet creeper
Blue Gray Gnatcatcher 2
Carolina Wren 1
Carolina Chickadee 2
Canada Warbler 1 first year bird
Worm Eating Warbler 1

I headed back to my truck a bit dissapointed not having found the
heron it being about 6:50 Pm
then thinking why not try again. This time only carrying bins and scope
back out to the Tubby cove blind then the GREAT WHITE HERON flew in landed
on a post at the nearest water edge backlit a little , bill color seen
well legs looked pale in color but could not see color there well. This
was looking due west scope still needed to see well . It sat there
preening its self for quite a while. I was able to get a few shots with my
film camera and a few poor digital shots through the spotting scope after
a trip back to the truck for the camera gear who says birding is not
exersize ? None will be wall hanger thoughs still presant at 7 :50 ish
when I went back to the truck. birded my way back to the bridge the Sun
getting close to setting so I stayed long enough to watch the Sunset and
yes I got some nice photos of it. if anyone wants to see just ask.

Happy Birding
