I continued watching the river (Patuxent) in PM when I could, and around 4
PM left the house for 35 minutes to visit a nearby (neighbors) dock.
Although I saw nothing pelagic or tropical, I added 10 more species for
the day. I am posting this because of the last one species for the day -
Common Nighthawk. This is unusual for me here in the fall. I normally
see them once or twice during spring migration, but this is my first fall
observation here. Perhaps they were blown here by the storm. They made
two passes over the pasture out front and then headed east to the river.

Additional species seen:

Black Vulture 4
Red-tailed Hawk 1
Common Nighthawk 3
Acadian Flycatcher 1
Tree Swallow 5
Northern Rough-winged Swallow 1
Brown Thrasher 1
Common Yellowthroat 2
Blue Grosbeak 1
Indigo Bunting 2

Today's totals:
71 species (+ 1 unconfirmed empid, possible least), including
66 sp. from home/property

Observations:

Birds missed at home were RTHA, AMKE, BLTE, HEGU, INBU.

Unfortunately I saw Black Tern two more times, but could not find one
while watching from home. I am missing this species from my home list; as
with everything, it is being in the right place at the right time. I saw a
single and a pair, both would have been visible from home had I been there.

Where were the warblers? I finally found a COYE by going down into the
swamp behind the house in the PM and pishing produced two, probably
locals. Maybe I will see some today!

Again, there was a large group of swallows feeding (frenzied!) over the
fields around here late (6:30-7:15PM) in the day. There were about 125
swallows of mixed species, mostly barn and bank (almost equal, seemed to
be more barns). I looked for a cliff but was unable to find one. I did
find some trees and a lone rough-wing with them.

Cheers!-
