Hi All:
My field trip was interesting in that I collected people along the way!
Between the efforts of the Lees at the hawk watch, Andy Urquhart, our
own Parke John, Tricia from Harford, Dianne from Ellicott City and
myself, we saw some nice birds. There were not massive warbler
fallouts, but enough to keep it interesting. There were many Magnolias
around, and individual or several of the following: Parula,
Black-throated Blue, Black-throated Green, Blackburnian,
Black/White,Redstart and Common Yellowthroat. Andy and I had a nice
look at an immature Rose-Breasted Grosbeak. Parke tracked down a loud
smacking call note to find the suspected Brown Thrashers, very active
that day. We did have flyover of a RED-HEADED WOODPECKER from the hawk
watch, yeah! Red-eye and White-eye Vireo are still present. At the
hawk watch as of 10:30 (slow morning) there was a Bald Eagle and a
sharpy playing around. Parke wanted me to make sure I included the
Screech Owl heard calling early in the morning. Both Nuthatches were
also heard. It is also interesting to mention what is NOT there: not a
single Oriole, Tanager or Gnatchatcher were seen, far different from
last week! I am sure Turkey Point will remain active in the weeks to come!
