Friday Morning (9/8) there were several good species along my driveway,
including American Redstart, Common Yellowthroat, Magnolia Warbler,
Black-and-white Warbler, White-eyed Vireo, Rose-breasted Grosbeak and Brown
Thrasher.
A brief walk along Copperville Road provided Pine Warbler (family
group), Chipping Sparrow with a very young fledgling, Wood Pewee,
White-breasted Nuthatch, another Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Red-eyed Vireo and
Yellow-billed Cuckoo.

Today (9/9) while waiting for a boat for a brief trip to Poplar Island:
Merlin, Royal Terns (12+), Green Heron and a Double-crested Cormorant that
seemed to have something lodged in its throat. However, a few minutes later
the same cormorant was attempting to swallow a fair sized fish, so the
choking problem did not last long.

Out on Poplar Island most of the birds were as reported for Jan Reese's
visit of 9/7, though total numbers were notably lower. Just two additions -
one Black-necked Stilt and a Northern Harrier. Highlights for me included
getting to view 38 American Avocets and 11 Red-necked Phalaropes. A single
Willet was also present, and Jan pointed out that this very pale bird was of
the western population of Willets, not one of the eastern Willets that are
normally seen in our region.
