Went down to Irish Grove on Thursday evening ((/7/06 - 4 PM to 7 PM) to see
about a telephone problem and to see if the black terns were still hanging
around. The flood waters had receded, so all roads were above water now,
but the upper marsh is still flooded with rain water. The black terns were
gone.

The STILT SANDPIPER was in the marsh on the east side of Rumbly Point
Road about 100 yards form the woods edge. It was only about 30 feet from
the road, but wasn't on our property when I first saw it. I hoped that my
presence would cause it to move to our side of the road, but it just went
further back in the marsh. On the way back up the road it was back in the
original spot, but this time it took the hint and flew over to our side,
landing in the marsh about 75 yards west of the road and promptly
disappearing. I was surprised that this species was missing from the
property list.
Good birding,
