Just after 3 pm this afternoon, I spotted a huge kettle of Broadwing Hawks
over my yard in Columbia. They were riding a thermal up and disappearing
into the cloud at the top of the thermal. Far too many to count accurately,
and so high easily 100 hawks were in the binocular field of view at one
time. And they kept coming and coming, at least 500 in that one group and
maybe twice that number.
