My wife Marcia and I were thrilled to see a magnificent adult BALD EAGLE fly directly over us as we stood in our backyard in Darnestown, Mont. Co. MD this morning Sunday 9/17/06 at 11:25 AM. It appeared at the back edge of a kettle of 40 BROADWINGED HAWKS; one of the broadwings actually feinted at the eagle. This was only the second Bald Eagle I have ever seen at my house, and the first adult. The broadwings started streaming off to southwest. When the eagle set its wings and started gliding in the same direction, it passed the broadwings like they were standing still. As soon as it had disappeared, we saw another kettle of 30 broadwings east of the house - this kettle with not ONE, but TWO BALD EAGLES in it!! both of these were immatures. Yard eagles #3 and 4! More broadwings at low altitude followed. A total of 3 BALD EAGLES, 24 BLACK VULTURES, 186 BROADWINGED HAWKS, 1 OSPREY, 1 KESTREL, 1 SHARPSHINNED HAWK, 1 RED-SHOULDERED HAWK and 1 RED-TAILED HAWK passed over our yard bet
ween 11:25 and 11:50 am . Another 7 broadwings and 1 red-shoulder passed later in the day.

I had just returned from Hughes Hollow where I saw a CONNECTICUT WARBLER, at very close range for about 60 seconds,at about 9:30 am, in low shrubs on the west side of the main dike, about 10 feet north of the concrete culvert just before the woods. It was a great view of a real nemesis bird for me - only the second one I have ever seen in the wild. Raptors at Hughes Hollow included 3 Broadwings, 5 or 6 Red-shouldered at one time, 1 Red-tail, 1 Cooper's Hawk, and 1 Kestrel eating a small bird. 3 separate RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS were present; also 1 flyover BOBOLINK. Good birding - Don Simonson, Darnestown, Mont. Co, MD
