Hi all --

Not a great day for migration, and most of the birds around yesterday appeared to have moved off. But we kept on plugging away...Folks trying the Maintenance Yard early were driven off by noise from a major rock-breaking effort (for trail repair) -- which pretty well shut this area down for the rest of the morning. Hopefully this activity will be over soon. For those on the Ridge (picnic areas 17/18) the morning was saved by an amazingly cooperative PHILADELPHIA VIREO which came in and foraged for some minutes barely above eye level in perfect light! Jim Lemert also found a RED-HEADED WOODPECKER in the Yard, an uncommon migrant here.

The report below contains birds we sighted as well as input from others, esp. Jeff Shenot and Jim Lemert.

Warblers: Black-and-White (6-7), Black-throated Blue (1), Chestnut-sided (3), Magnolia (2), Nashville (2), Parula (2), Redstart (5), Wilson's (1), Yellowthroat (10).

Other migrants: Wood-pewee (2), Red-eyed Vireo (12), Philadelphia Vireo (1), Yellow-throated Vireo (1), Ruby-crowned Kinglet (1, first of season for us), Scarlet Tanager (2), Rose-breasted Grosbeak (3), Brown Thrasher (1), House Wren (4), Ruby-throated Hummingbird (1)
