Cromwell Valley Park HawkWatch- Monday, Sept. 18th 2006

We began before 8:00am this morning in hopes of seeing some Broad-winged Hawks rising up
from thier roosts. It was almost 10:00am before they actually appeared, with only a dozen or so
which roosted near the watch site, giving us great, close views. Within minutes they were quite
high and heading SSW. The sky was clear and a little hazy with calm winds, and by 1:00pm some
nice clouds were overhead to assist in spotting the high flyers. However, a light south wind
developed and shut down the flight. Only 3 BWs were seen after 2:00pm.
One highlight of the day was a falcon which we had some question as to what type it was. Mark
Miller was quick with his digital camera, and within seconds we were looking at an image of a
juvenile Peregrine Falcon!!

Anyone interested in hawk migration and identification would benefit from a presentation on
Tuesday 9/19/06 at 7:30pm at Marshy Point Nature Center. Bob Rineer will be the speaker. Call
the Center at 410-887-2817 for further info.
