I'm sure Gail and others will have posted the really good stuff from
this morning, but I thought it might be of interest to note that I
spotted at least one juvenile Red-Headed Woodpecker (there were two
birds cavorting together and only one of them came to rest) at 8:41
AM, opposite the front door of the large practice ring building in
the large single pine tree that sits just in to the left of the road
that goes down to the lower outdoor practice ring. This was my first
juvenile, but I would say behavior and shape were absolutely
woodpecker, and the markings were compelling: white lower back and
secondaries, white breast and belly viewed from the side. I did not
pick up any streaking on the belly. Upper back appeared a dark brown
with the brown head not sharply contrasting in the morning sun.
Cheers,
