Lin, the Assateague ORV zone is a 13-mile stretch of beach that is open to licensed 4WD vehicles.  The ORV license costs $70 per year and you also need to have a $20 annual pass to the National Seashore.  There are also a number of special equipment items you need to have in the car with you.  If you can get to Assateague fairly often and if you have a 4WD vehicle, the $90 expenditure will repay itself many times over.
