Sorry for the late post on this.  

I went out yesterday morning (September 20) and walked from Pennyfield Lock to Blockhouse Point on the C & O Canal.  The wind had come up which made it hard to spot birds, but I still had a pretty good array of species.

Highlight was 21 Wood ducks of varying sexes and ages in the second impoundment as you walk West on the towpath.  So it appears in spite of our drought that they had a good breeding year.

Otherwise mostly the birds you would expect.
