If you are interested in going native and providing great cover for birds
and beasts, you might consider getting your yard, patio or larger property
designated "wildlife habitat" by the National Wildlife Federation. Ok,
blatant plug for the employer. I just certified my yard, which isn't hard
if you provide some cover, food, and water for wildlife.

While this may be somewhat simple, it might also inspire your neighbors or
your community to do the same.

Dare I say, we could continue the movement to get rid of more lawns,
install native shrubs and ground covers that are good for wildlife and cut
down on your time mowing and watering. Getting a cool wildlife habitat
sign could be helpful if you decide to go non-traditional with your front
yard and the neighbors get nervous about ripping up your lawn.
