I didn't see any postings about Hugh Mahanes death so I wanted to make sure everyone knew. Hugh died on Saturday, September 23rd. There is an obituary in this morning's Washington Post. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 7 at Unity of Fairfax Church, 2854 Hunter Mill Rd., Oakton, VA followed by a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to be made in Hugh's memorty to the Audubon Naturalist Society, 8940 Jones Mill Road, Chevy Chase, MD 20815.

I had the pleasure of birding with Hugh several times including the Christmas Count.
