I birded along the Anacostia River this morning, and saw the following:
4 fem/imm. Surf Scoters
3,000-5,000 Laughing Gulls
5 Forster's Terns
3 Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers
2 Eastern Wood-Pewees
2-3 Eastern Phoebes
2 Golden-crowned Kinglets
3 Ruby-crowned Kinglets
1 Nashville Warbler
2 Black-throated Green Warblers
2 Black-throated Blue Warblers
2 Magnolia Warblers
1 western Palm Warbler
1 American Redstart
4+ Yellow-rumped Warblers
3 Yellowthroats
The migrant flock was a pleasant surprise, one of the best I've had in SE
DC. All these birds were seen along the west side of the Anacostia where
all the yacht clubs are located (reached by driving east on M St until it
ends and then keep on driving). The scoters were also visible from the east
side of the river, along the Anacostia River Park. I have no idea how many
Laughing Gulls I saw, all I know is that they continued to stream upriver
for the few hours that I was out birding. I tried to find something more
interesting among them, but luck was not on my side.
Good birding,
