I just returned from 4 days in Cape May, and found the swamp behind our
house was jumping with swamp sparrows early this morning. It is a scrub-
shrub/emergent mix of wetland; It was hard to count them but I estimate at
least 50 swampies were in there! It was nice to watch the constant activity
from these wonderfully colorful brown birds! I managed to see 4-5 song
sparrows, 5-6 towhees and about 10 white-throateds with them. Surprisingly
that was all (no juncos or other goodies) I spotted. There were also Soras
calling from two areas out in the cattail/rice stands.

In the yard I had a small flock of ~ 10 warblers, - all myrtles except for one N.
parula (female). The rose-breasted grosbeaks that were here for 3 straight
weeks (!) have left now, along with most of the chipping sparrows that had
been aggregating along the field edges.

Cheers!
