Today while working I looked out the window to see a BROWN CREEPER creeping
up a Pin Oak in our front yard. This is only the 2nd I've seen here after 4
years. There were about 5 BLUEJAYS wrestling (I believe) acorns off of the
same tree. Truly a bumper year for acorns this year.

Additionally, there are two fundraisers at rehabilitation facilities going
on in the next 2 weeks that birders may want to consider participating in
(fundraisers and donations keep these facilities going):

Second Chance Wildlife Rescue, Inc. (Gaithersburg, MD)

Open House, Oct. 14. Noon - 4 p.m.

More info at: http://www.scwc.org/what_s_new/SCWCFlyer06.PDF

Tour the facility, buy some refreshments, raffle tickets, and bring the
family for a picnic.

Wildlife Rescue, Inc. (Hampstead, MD - North of Baltimore up Falls Road)

Fall Festival, Oct. 22. 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm.

More info at: http://www.wildliferescueinc.org/

$25 adults pre-event, $35.00 at the door, $10 for kids.

See raptors from local Nature Centers, and bid on silent auction items
ranging from wildlife photos by a prominent MD wildlife photographer,
week-long stays at Myrtle Beach and Woolford, MD (near Blackwater NWR on
Fishing Creek), escapes to NYC, native trees, gift certificates to local
restaurants, handmade quilts, and a variety of toys for kids.
