Crows famously gather in Rockville, but is that this time of year? I
have seen some, but not the big numbers of when they are really
gathering. I remember coming out of a store on Rockville Pike (decades
ago) and the sky being FULL of crows flying at all levels and all
heading in the same direction, and not one of them making a sound. It
seemed a little eerie. Of course you don't see those numbers of crows
anymore, but I work west of 270 in Rockville and in the proper season
still enjoy watching good numbers of them fly by in the evening all
heading back toward the Pike.

Lately I have been seeing starlings moving in clouds in several places,
but the radio host might consider the "scariest" bird around to be the
Barred Owl my wife and I heard two nights ago from our home in
Kensington - it called three or four times and set off some of the
neighborhood dogs, then it either moved on or kept quiet.

Yesterday afternoon I was forced to listen to DC101 & the obnoxious dj
was asking listeners from Gaithersburg/Rockville to look up at the sky &
to call in & tell him if they saw something scary that occurs this time
of year.

People called in saying, "clouds, early sunset, etc.," but the correct
answer was "scary black birds." They said it felt like they were in the
Alfred Hitchcock movie.

Apparently there are "scary" black birds flocking in
Gaithersburg/Rockville this time of year. Anyone know what they are?
Crows? Starlings?
