Greetings,

Yesterday afternoon I stopped by the Perryville Community Park, in Cecil
County, to see what was floating around Mill Creek and Furnace Bay. Mill Creek
had a good number and variety of ducks, but the mother load was situated
way up in Furnace Bay. Furnace Bay is harder to scope (due to distance) then
the closer Mill Creek, but I managed to make out 10 waterfowl species plus
three other non-gull floaters... As I mentioned Furnace Bay was just FULL of
ducks and geese, possible as many as 5-10 thousands individual birds! Mill
Creek held an easier to estimate 1000 or so! the best birds (for me) were five
hen buffleheads. I did not expect to see these. Also there are still loads of
terns out on the Susquahanna Flats. Below is the list for waterbirds (numbers
for Furnace Bay are in Parenthesis. all numbers are [mostly] estimates):

Birds on the water:

Double-crested Cormorant 5 (?)
Pied-billed Grebe 20 (100+)
Great Blue Heron 20 (?)
Mute Swan 0 (10)
Canada Goose 100 (2000+)
Malard 10 (?)
Black Duck 6 (?)
Gadwall 50 (?)
A. Wigeon 20 (?)
Wood Duck 5 (0?)
Ring-necked Duck 300 (?)
Ruddy Duck 500 (1000+)
Bufflehead 5 (0?)
Ring-billed Gull 2 (50)
Great Black-backed Gull (100+)
Forster's Tern 25 (200+)
American Coot 200 (200+)

Good Birding,
