This morning, Oct 31, the Eared Grebe was still present at the Easton Waste
Water Treatment Plant, along with four Ring-necked Ducks and several Ruddies
and Shovelers.

I carefully took the time to visit the Treatment Plant Operations office
where I discussed current access rules with the Treatment Plant Staff. The
very intense construction work near the North Dover Road entrance is
expected to continue for several months. During this time any birders
coming during working hours should come in through the North Dover Road
entrance, weaving around amongst the construction, but basically staying
toward the left side of the road until passing between two small brick
buildings that stand close to each side of the roadway. At that point you
will see a small brick building ahead and to the left. Find some place to
park without blocking the road and then enter that building to ask
permission to bird. The office hours are from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. for
five days per week. The Treatment Plant personnel have always been
courteous and cooperative, but during this construction period they have
been instructed to make sure that any birders keep out of the way of the
construction activities - which include lots of earth moving and running
along the roads with big dump trucks. The construction contractors have
nothing to do with regulating the activities of the birders.
On weekends or after hours the only access is from Barkers Landing Road.
Park at the end of the public portion of Barkers Landing Road and walk
across the field to the ponds. Even if the gate is open in that area,
driving in without explicit permission is not approved. Walking in to the
ponds is permitted when the normal permission-granting office is closed.
