A late posting for 11/11/06. What better day for an old veteran of wwII, etc., & retired pilot
from the AF to check on the birds, acconpanied by young whippersnappers Steve Sanford
and Gail Frantz. Of about 56 spp., selected sightings follow.

A Wh Pellican--about 10
GB Heron--posing in the marsh as philosophers of the Phragmites
Mute Swan--2 in pond east side of bay bridge
Tundra Swan--lots at the refuge
N Shoveler
SS, Cooper's & RT Hawk
Bald Eagle--Imm. & adult
N Harrier
Killdeer--group ~10, flying ov'hd
Hairy +3 W'pkrs
E Phoebe
Tree Swallow
Jay
BH Nuthatch
Winter & C Wren
Brown Creeper
Mockingbird
Robin
E Bluebird
GC Kinglet
C Waxwing
Myrtle Warbler
Towhee
Junco
Savannah, Field, WT, Song & Swamp Sparrow

Also: WT Deer, E Painted Turtle & Dragonflies(C Green Darner & Yel-legged Meadowhawk)

We journeyed south on Maple Dam Rd, past Shorters Wharf, until turning E on Cedar Ck
Rd which ends at the creek, with a distant look at Elliot Island across Fishing Bay. Our
hope of finding the Rough-legged Hawk and Short-eared Owl proved fruitless, just several
diligent, hunting N Harriers coursing the area. Still, in all, a fun day.
