I arrived at the Shriver Road site this morning (11/14) at 10:25 AM, no one
else present, and began scanning the two easterly hedgerows. Many
White-crowneds and a pair of Northern Mockingbirds. Within 10 minutes our
very orangish-brown 1st year Northern Shrike appeared in the top of the
largest, brushiest deciduous tree (no leaves left) at about the center of
the nearer hedgerow. It remained for about 3 minutes, then flew (my) left
into the bottom of a larger lone evergreen in the rear hedgerow, not to
reappear during my remaining half hour there. I believe this color stage is
far more beautiful than the adult, unlike most birds. It was a lifer for
me!
