I arrived at the Shriver Road site today (11/14) at 10:25 AM and began
scoping the easterly hedgerows. The very orangish-brown first-year Northern
Shrike suddenly appeared within 10 minutes at the top of the largest,
brushiest deciduous tree (no leaves left) near the middle of the closer
hedgerow, and remained for 3 minutes in good overcast-diffused light. It then
flew leftward into the rear hedgerow, landing in the lower part of a larger, lone
evergreen, then disappearing low. Two mockingbirds were cavorting along the
front hedgerow, at the same time, for comparison. I stayed another 30
minutes, with no further appearance. Plenty of White-crowneds. No other
birders around while I was there. This is a lifer for me!
