The immature Northern Shrike was present around 2:00 today along Shriver Rd
about ½ mile from Bollinger School Rd. It was working the hedge row on the
right side of the row just after the bend in Shriver Road. The crown and
nape are brown but the back looks grayish. The primary coverts show a white
patch. No eyeline was visible. The bill was pale at the base and dark on the
end. I was fortunate to run into the shrikes’ original founder Jim Wilkinson
and his wife. There was also a black cat hunting the same hedge row. Several
White-crowned Sparrows were on the left side of Shriver Rd not far from
Bollinger School Rd.
