My daughter and I got a good view of the American Bittern at Lake Artemesia November 25 at about 3 p.m. We sat on the dock and observed the bird for about fifteen minutes. It seemed undisturbed by bikers and families that passed within a few feet. We could see it along the north side of the lake, just where Michel had seen it earlier, in plain view without binoculars (once we had spotted it).
A life bird for both of us!
Also, the Osprey overhead (harried by crows at one point), on the lake Ruddy Ducks, Pied-billed Grebes, American Coots and Ring-necked Ducks, as well as the ubiquitous Canadas.
Good Birding!
