I am not a huge fan of hunting although I also see the need for regulated
hunting of species that are introduced by man or have detrimental effects
on the habitats and wildlife we try to preserve because their natural
predators are removed.

However, this argument is kind of circular, since us humans were
responsible for the demise of raptors and carnivors in the first place. We
persecuted the predators because they ate the prey we liked to hunt and
eat, and in many places (like many parts of Europe) people still use this
excuse to kill natural predators even though we no longer depend on wild
prey for food. Hunting is today a big bucks industry, a sport very much
like golfing. It is a shame that the sportshunting value of wildlife is
what generates the necessary funds to preserve wetlands and forests from
developments, but I guess we just have to accept regulated hunting as long
as it helps preserve the breeding habitats that benefit all organisms and
ecosystems.
