This morning Bill Ellis and I searched for field birds in NE Frederick County and NW Carroll County. Included in our wanderings we checked Shriver Road where the Northern Shrike has not been seen for some time. We did not see it but a flock of about 30 pipits was there. Other sites yielded no other field birds.
We also stopped at the farm pond on Study Road (ADC 73B6) and were surprised to find ten species of waterfowl:
CACKLING GOOSE 4, staying together like a family group
Canada Goose 450
WOOD DUCK 1 male
Baldpate 1 female
Black Duck 1
Mallard 80
Pintail 1 female
GREATER SCAUP 1 female which I first saw here on Nov. 19
Hooded Merganser 2, a pair
Ruddy Duck 1 female
