There is little waterfowl at the Little Patuxent Oxbow Lake Nature Preserve.
Since the November flooding that broke the dams, the water level is
exceedingly low (there are signs that the beavers are busy at work
building/fortifying their lodges). Since the first illegal primitive duck/goose blind
was found and reported to MD DNR and AA Co, two more illegal blinds have
been found. Ice covers the lake as the temperature dips at night, with the
deepest areas thawing with the warming sun rays.
Birds seen included:
Trumpeter Swan #960
Canada Geese (his 4 buddies)
Bald Eagle (adult)
Sharp-shinned Hawk (later at my home in Russett)
Ring-billed Gulls (on the ice)
Mourning Dove
Pileated Woodpeckers (1 seen, 3 heard)
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Eastern Phoebe
Blue Jay
Caroline Chickadee
White-breasted Nuthatch
Winter Wren
American Robin
Dark-eyed Junco
