Subject: Eastern shore trip
Yesterday 12/9 I birded in Worchester and Somerset County. Weather was cold and because of that most of the freshwater was frozen. Lots of the ducks were sitting on ice all day long and some even trying to land on it, quite funny to watch.
OC inlet:
1 Long-Billed Dowitcher being chased by a harrier off of the inlet what a sight!
~20 Bonies
~5 forester's terns
West OC pond: mostly frozen
Gadwall
Shoveler
Green-winged teal
~10 canvasback
Eagles Nest Golf Course:
~200 american widegon
1 Eurasian Widegon
Eagle's Nest Campground:
Western Willet
Loads of Black-bellied Plovers
Forester's tern
Evan's Rd:
2 White-crowns
1 house wren
2 thrashers
North Vaughn:
1 Clay-colored Sparrow
1 Fox Sparrow
1 Hermit Thrush
Brown-headed Nuthatch
Follow Ditch Rd.
1 merlin
1 white-crown
Deal Island:
1 Orange-Crowned Warbler
6 Pied billed grebes- One flew onto the ice and was hilarious to watch it flop around
1 sedge wren
1 marsh wren
good numbers of Black-crowned night herons
~5 tricolored herons
~20 Great Egrets
1 merlin
It was a great day and felt really good to be back in MD birding, sad though that it wasn't the day after an awesome pelagic trip. But oh well.
Good birding
