Today as I came over the Frederick Douglas Bridge (Suitland Parkway/S Capital St) there were a large number of gulls congregated on a rooftop to the left on the DC side - way more than usual. Among them was one VERY large gull type, uh, gull(?) -actually I think there were two of them but.. the congregation of gulls looked to be regular issue Herring Gulls ( I think they are Herrings) and this other 'gull' was very, very much larger than the others and very black and white - it really stood out from the others. It looked like it had a white body and black back/wings -naturally the traffic had to finally move right when I was getting close enough to get a better view (no bins in car today).
I know this is not a lot of information to go on but does aynone have an idea what it might have been? I drive this way everyday and have not seen this large 'gull' before.
Also I was wondering, whileIa m here, does it seem like there are a lot more sparrows (House) downtown this year- there are a lot more where I am - West End, 24th& M Street - than there were last year - are other people noticing this??
Thanks,
Cat Reid
