I also noticed the wren song this morning. At least 3 Carolinas
were singing in the woods. The weather cleared up by noon when I was
in Havre de Grace. I stopped at the yacht basin and saw a hawk on the telephone
pole near the gazebo. It was an immature Cooper's Hawk, trying to
fluff dry itself.
The hawk perched on top of the pole, preening, for the 15 minutes that I was
there. Of course, no other birds were in sight.
I am happy to report a Hairy Woodpecker coming to the suet feeder,
my first of the season. I now have all the usual suspects back,
including a male Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, except for a Brown Creeper,
which is surprising. I usually have at least one of them long before this.
But then, it hasn't usually been this warm this long. 60 degrees
this afternoon, just two days before Christmas!
