The morning was quiet and dreary. The rain had stopped and the
temperature was about 60. The haze deadened the constant background
road noise. The morning walk down Bryce Road was wonderful. Carolina
Wrens were constantly singing and trilling and scolding. Titmouse were
petering. Jays were scolding. I had 5 species of woodpecker: Downy, Hairy,
Pileated, Flicker, Red-bellied ... and they all were making their birdy songs.
Bluebirds and chippping sparrows .... song and white throated sparrows. Over
50 Tundra Swans flying overhead and calling. Canada Geese always in the
air. We walked in the house and the resident Sharpie blew into the feeder
area and sat for 15 minutes providing spectacular views thru the spotting
scope at 20x, especially since the bird was only 12 feet away. He was
actually a bit cross-eyed. Maybe they all are.
A truly unexpected, magical morning.
