I birded the Ten Mile Creek area of Black Hill this afternoon, mostly
for waterfowl...

Canvasback (14+)
American Wigeon (20+)
Hooded Merganser (2)
Pied-billed Grebe (1)
Bufflehead (30+)
Ring-necked Duck (60+)
Ruddy Duck (15+)
American Black Duck (15+)
Mallard (6)
Canada Goose (30+)

Other birds included a Belted Kingfisher, Red-bellied Woodpeckers, a
Pileated Woodpecker (heard only), and a Red-shouldered Hawk (heard
only).

On a side note, I had the pleasure of watching three river otters
swimming and diving for twenty minutes or so, shortly before sunset. It
was the first time in years that I've seen them at Black Hill, although
I knew otters were present, so that was a treat! Has anyone else seen
them recently, and does anyone know roughly how large the population is
in Little Seneca Lake? Thanks!
