Hi --

Luckily the rain held off and the counters were able to put in a full day on the Sugarloaf CBC yesterday. My sector, 6, includes Lilypons and some other good habitat and we had some energetic counters out as well. The sector tallied 71 species, which is a high I believe. Some of the highlights included: Snow Goose (3 adults and two immatures), Lincoln's Sparrow and Marsh Wren in Lilypons, a Lapland Longspur with the (few) Horned Larks on Rt. 85, 80 American Pipits which is high, and a Northern Saw-Whet Owl (heard only). We had very low count of American Tree Sparrows (1!) and unfortunately the Virginia Rail that was present for the last two CBCs was absent -- despite a lot of looking both Friday and on count day. Also despite the warm weather, no what we call "half-hardies" like Catbird, Thrasher, House Wren etc.
