I just got a call from Greg Kearns, who asked me to post that yesterday he
saw an American White Pelican in the afternoon at Merkle, and today - about
30 minutes ago, it was seen here at Jug Bay, flying down the Patuxent.
I went out and looked but did not see it; I got a very nice consolation sighting
though - my first kestrel here for the year. It was perched far across the
river on the AA Co side, and when a red-tail landed in a large tree nearby it
came over to harass the hawk, stopping on it several times. The redtail
remained steadfast, and the kestrel left the vicinity.
This morning the male red-winged blackbirds were singing their Spring song
very vocally, as were the cardinals. It sounded like early March here this
morning!
Cheers-
