On Saturday morning, I accompanied 3 outstanding birders from Kennard
Elementary School to Kent Narrows and CBEC. Highlights are as follows:

The waters at Kent Narrows were choppy. The one Surf Scoter that we had
seen there before was still there. We also had the usual Scaup and Bufflehead.
No Long-Tailed Ducks.

At CBEC we saw a Bald Eagle carrying a stick to his nest along the entrance
road. The kids (and I) loved it! Yellow-rumped Warblers were plentiful.
We had one Ruby-crowned Kinglet. There was one drake Redhead floating among
masses of Ruddy Ducks and Buffleheads at the canoe launch area. In the tall
pines by the observation tower, we found Flickers, Hairy and Downy
Woodpeckers and a Red-Bellied. Kelley found a Winter Wren skulking in the
underbrush.

The puzzle was the squeaky toy noises coming from the tops of the pines. I
had a quick look at one of several birds flitting about. When I came home,
I checked my Stokes Birding by Ear and it confirmed that they were a very
noisy group of Brown-Headed Nuthatches. Neat.

On the bayside, we had hundreds of Buffleheads and a couple of rafts of Surf
Scoters.

All in all, an excellent morning.
