Rats! I was there today at approximately the same time, went
down to that treeline, saw juncos and white-throated sparrows, but
not the clay-colored. It may well have been with the two-dozen or so
birds that surrounded me at one point, but I only had a quick look from
the one spot where the sun wasn't in my eyes. I went back for a second look
maybe a half hour later, but didn't see any birds at all then.
