Clay-colored Sparrow
Friday, January 19, 2007

The 3rd time was also the charm for me with the Clay-colored this
afternoon. I saw it around 12:15 p.m. along the tree line on the field
side of the hedge-row

I was at the Bulle Rock Parkway site from 10:00 a.m. to 12:45
p.m. today. I worked the hedgerow for two hours without any success.
Another birder arrived and we talked. He said that he had seen it
another day along the tree line that borders the field. The
clay-colored sparrow was associating with juncos at that time. Sorry, I
did not get the birder's name.

Since I had no success with the hedgerow, I decided to walk the tree
line. I started at the lower end of the hedgerow and followed the tree
line back up to where it meets the upper end of the hedgerow near the
Parkway. There was not much around until I got to within about 75 yards
of the hedgerow. The clay-colored sparrow was seen almost immediately
with a group of Eastern Bluebirds, juncos, a few song sparrows and
white-throated sparrows.

The other birder who I would really like to thank, was gone. There was
another birder going in when I went out and I gave her the information.
Hopefully she had success!
