Yesterday (Thursday, Jan. 25) I had some free time, so I spent a couple of hours driving around the Mason Branch-
Sparks-Stevenson Roads area north of Ridgely where Danny Poet had reported finding Lapland Longspurs last
weekend. Not a whole lot turned up, aside from a nice flock of bluebirds, a half dozen Killdeer, several Kestrels, and
more Turkey Vultures than you could shake a stick at. I also had a large Cooper's Hawk fly over the car while I was
on Rte. 404 heading toward Ridgely.

I decided to try my luck in nearby Queen Annes County, in the area between US Rte. 301 and Ruthsburg. I found two
small flocks of Horned Larks along Hayden and Hope Roads. In the second one, on Hope Road about 1/4 mile north of
the intersection with MD Rte. 305, I found a single Lapland Longspur. Another long-sought-after life bird for me.

Cheers!
