Spend the afternoon birding the Eastern Shore and by far the best bird of the
day was a juvenille GOLDEN EAGLE at pickering Creek in Talbot County. I first
spotted it perched high in a deciduous tree across from the Gilbert V.Byron
house (on the right as you drive from the dock area). What a magnificent
bird! The sun was just right, and his (or her) golden head was glowing
radiantly! This was the best view I've ever gotten of a Golden, even out
West. My husband and I were simply at awe at this marvelous creature!
Other birds of note were a pair of adult BALD EAGLES by the dock area, as
well as a female WOOD DUCK, and hundreds of CANADA GEESE. Blackwater
Wildlife Refuge had about 20 WHITE PELICANS. 2 sets of about 10 were
huddled together at sunset making it a spectacular end of a day of birding!
