Hello all,

A newcomer to Cumberland and Maryland, I have to acknowledge J.B. Churchill
and Ray Kiddy on the tip and the spot, respectively, for this bird. At
3:00PM today, I viewed a single White-winged Scoter on the Potomac River
from the levee near the Moose Lodge in Cumberland. The bird's head was
tucked under its wing for the duration of the viewing. However, judging from
the white auricular patch, I suspected the bird to be an immature. Whatever
the age of the bird, it was still an excellent sighting to me and the best
since coming to Cumberland. Other waterfowl of note included two female
Hooded Mergansers and two male Buffleheads.
