When there is a little snow and a lot of cold, one surely "has got to
get out", so I did. Prior to leaving home, the cleared feeding spot beside
my driveway attracted over 100 hungry birds. The breakdown: Cardinal (13),
Blue Jay (4), Eastern Towhee (2), BROWN THRASHER (1), Song Sparrow (2),
Red-bellied Woodpecker (1), Brown-headed Cowbird (6), White-throated Sparrow
(~40), House Sparrow (6), Red-winged Blackbird (the rest).
This was the first 2007 showing of the Brown Thrasher, but I suspect the
usual pair has been around all winter - with this being the first day where
conditions were rough enough to force one to come for a hand out.

Out looking - Kingston Landing - Horned Grebe (11), with seven of them
tightly clustered in a clump as if they were keeping one-another warm in the
midst of the chilly waters of the Choptank, and Common Merganser (6).

North of Cordova on E. Blades Rd west of Cordova Rd - a little sheltered
field beside some woods was being used by 30 American Pipits. Other
searching in the region turned up only a few scattered Horned Larks.
