This a.m., Feb. 10, I saw the red-necked grebe on the west side of
121 in Little Seneca Lake. At 7:30 or 7:45 a.m., it was first seen
close to the road, for a moment. It dove and was later relocated
(about 20 minutes later) mid-way out on the west side and stayed
above water. Among the common mergansers, I also saw a drake and
several female red-breasted mergansers. On the other side, a male
common goldeneye was also in view. Pied-billed and horned grebes,
tundra swans, hooded mergansers, ruddy ducks, a few lesser scaup,
ring-necked ducks, canvasbacks, and buffleheads were among the other
usual suspects.
