Hi all-

Decided to go on intuition and try for the Red necked Grebe (a life bird) that had been previously spotted off the Rt. 121 bridge. Thanks Sonnie for finding it in the scope!
Several other birders were trying to locate it later.
The Red-necked Grebe was still on the west side, inbetween the iced over cove, and the line of trees along the bank (looking NW);it dove and moved frequently. This is one case where
the Sibley guide comes in handy, the burnt red was visible on the neck(in good light) and paler, duller feathers of winter.
(didn't see Bald Eagle, goldeneye or Oldsquaw-drat!)

  Other species in vincinity:
  American Coots
  Red breasted Mergansers
  Common Mergansers
  Hooded Mergansers
  Canada Geese
  Buffleheads
  Pied billed Grebes
  Horned Grebes
  Black Duck
  Canvasback
  Ringed neck Duck
  Great Blue Heron
  Ruddy duck
  Ring billed Gull
  Rock Dove
  Eastern Blue bird (heard)
  Red tailed Hawk
