woke up this morning and looked out the window over the great atlantic pond.
I am always amazed that the 2 common loons come back every year. However
this morning they where joined by apparently a very hot babe duck. 8 male
black scoters had surounded and circled and preened and fluttered, and made
some interesting morningdovish/rockdovish sounds. Now I am not familiar with
the mating habits of the black scoter, but if i had to guess, i would say they
were at least in a pre-mating ritual. no white on the head of the males, big
bright orange nob on the bill, female, top half of the head dark, lower part,
lighter.
Over at the inlet surf scoters, mergs, horned grebes, old squaw oopss, sorry,
pc, long tailed duck, purple sandpiper flock, with 1 sanderling. turnstones.
sorry, missed the rumored razor bill.
