The morning after the previous post about the hoodies & woodies at
Piscataway I found them on the pond at the sharp bend of Bryan Point Road (I
call it Kingfisher Pond but that's strictly unofficial). The hoodies were
swimming about and the woodies flew into Accokeek creek just inside the tree
line (that slough at the overlook is a part of Accokeek creek by the way).
When I went out to fill the feeders yesterday morning the male wood duck was
hanging around in a tree in my backyard, he loafed about for half an hour or
so and flew back across the street to Kingfisher pond. They had a nest on
the pond last year so we'll see what happens this year. I've also been
hearing peepers over there for a few days now. And last but not least were
last evening's woodcocks in the farm fields (I live on Hard Bargain Farm in
Accokeek). I had 5 "peenters" and two in the air looking for love. They all
started up just as the evening's last hoorah (the white-throats, cardinals,
geese, etc) finished their goodnights. I have my eyes and ears tuned in for
an Osprey now, hope they come back to the farm soon!

Good birding all,
