I went out to Morgan Run NEA this afternoon and saw the two Long-eared
Owls - lifers for me, and a nemesis species which I thought I might never
see (like Jerry, below). Bob and his dog (who may be the only dog in the
state with three hummingbirds on its Maryland list) were there to lead me
(and several other birders) to the owls. I too would like to publicly thank
Bob for offering to show fellow MDOspreyers these remarkable birds. What a
wonderful find - and here I've been looking up into pine trees hoping to
find this species all these years...

I would like to publicly thank Bob for calling us yesterday and to Mark H
for the photos. This is one of those lifers we we're sure we would ever get
and now that we got them we can see why they are so hard to get. Those birds
don't just blend in - they practically disappear.
The ice on the lake across the road is starting to finally break up.
There is an open area in the middle that should start filling up with ducks
any minute now. I was at Codorus earlier and there were a lot of things out
there in some open, non-solid water but I didn't have my scope with me to
confirm much other than lots of geese, some possible swans and some
Canvasbacks. I also think there may have been a loon at one spot. Seems
early for them. Mergansers were out there, too. Probably all 3 types.
