I would like to publicly thank Bob for calling us yesterday and to Mark H for the photos. This is one of those lifers we we're sure we would ever get and now that we got them we can see why they are so hard to get. Those birds don't just blend in - they practically disappear.
The ice on the lake across the road is starting to finally break up. There is an open area in the middle that should start filling up with ducks any minute now. I was at Codorus earlier and there were a lot of things out there in some open, non-solid water but I didn't have my scope with me to confirm much other than lots of geese, some possible swans and some Canvasbacks. I also think there may have been a loon at one spot. Seems early for them. Mergansers were out there, too. Probably all 3 types.
