Albert (and all),

I was at the festival as well. An organization was there with captive birds,
some who don't belong in Maryland naturally. They also had a barred owl, a
screech owl, a red-tailed hawk and a few others I didn't see. The Spectacled
owl was from South America, probably the same kind you saw in Trinidad. It
was a beautiful bird but I really prefer when nature centers, etc. teach
about local species. Kids today know more about pandas and tigers and rain
forests than they do about the species and issues in their own back yards.

Good birding,

What is it you are calling a Spectacled Owl (genus & species)? I saw
something called a Spectacled Owl in Trinidad last November, but I'm
unaware of an owl here with that common name.

Thanks,
Albert
